All your Child wants for Christmas is Tech Gadgets and Tickets to the Taylor Swift concert!

Smartphones, tablets and video games high on the Christmas list for nearly 90% of British kids, but books and art supplies also find favour

London, 13 December, 2023nimbl, the leading pocket money app and card provider, has conducted an insightful survey to unveil the most coveted gifts on children’s Christmas lists this festive season. Over 300 parents and carers of children between the ages of 10-15 years were surveyed to find out what their children most desired for the big holidays.

Tech Gadgets Take the Lead

A whopping 52.62% of parents and carers indicated that tech gadgets, such as tablets and smartphones, dominate their children’s wish lists.

Video games secured a strong second place, with 36.34% expressing a desire for gaming related products. Gaming gadgets, including PCs, Xbox, and Meta Quest 3, also made a notable appearance.

Beyond tech

Books and art supplies are not out of the reckoning, going neck and neck with 24.42% and 24.13% of respondents respectively, seeking those gifts for Christmas. Board games seem to be losing popularity with only 16.28% choosing to have them on their lists, but the option for a day out or experience did make it to 21.22% of lists.

“Other” responses included fashion items like clothing, make-up, and jewellery, indicating a diverse range of interests. And a special shoutout to the 14 year old who expressed a wish for Tickets for Taylor Swift Tour!

“Our survey reflects the evolving interests of today’s youth, who are embracing technology with open arms but not at the cost of literature or artistic pursuits,” said Alana Parsons, CEO of nimbl. “It is great to see the multifaceted nature of young people’s interests and also the level of digital literacy amongst them, as they prepare to become the future workforce of the country.”

The top five most wanted items were:

  • Tech gadgets (e.g. tablet, smartphone) – 52.62%
  • Video games – 36.34%
  • Books – 24.42%
